The obituary notice of Rita AUSTIN

Rita was my inspiring tutor more than fifty years ago when I was taking my first steps back into education after leaving school at 16 with very few O levels. I found her inspiring and she opened a door for me and invited me to cross threshold. She boosted my confidence, made me more curious about society was organised and the class was like a debating chamber with Rita throwing out challenges. I have never forgotten her even though our paths didn't cross again. Rita's teaching led me to apply for Coleg Harlech in my twenties and then onto University in my mid twenties. She made a huge difference to me and the lives of many others. A gifted communicator who gave many years of public service in different capacities. It was an honour to have known her.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you ❤️ - Love you always, mum ❤️

I knew Rita as a Labour councillor, a Race Equality champion, a Careers Service leader and a Welsh Government appointee. But mostly she became a friend, particularly in recent years. I will miss her company and her incredible store of knowledge.

Rita was the perfect neighbour and excellent friend. I will never forget what she taught me about gardening and will use it to help my garden flourish in her memory x
